A Group Show commemorating the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Featured Artist is Susan Plessala, a displaced New Orleans artist living in Destin. Plessala works in mixed media and textiles, creating functional art as well as art-for-arts-sake. Three artists whose works are included in the Smithsonian permanent collection are making special pieces for the show: Missionary Mary Proctor, Woodie Long, and Chris Clark. Matty Jankowski's, a Panama City artist of international repute, will exhibit his assemblages of artifacts from the storm combined with photographic images. Washboard Jackson, who's jug band played the French Quarter streets for years and were a featured act at the New Orleans World Fair., has done a piece titled "Jazz Funeral for Katrina" based on the actual event. Local celebrities Billie and Justin Gaffrey are contributing major works.
20% of Proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity Musicians Village, a housing development to bring back New Orleans cultural life. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
