PHYLLIS GOLDBERG

Painting and Digital Manipulation

Goldberg received her BA, Art History from Brooklyn College and studied with Leo Manso at NY’s Art Students League.

Since she began painting at the age of sixty, Goldberg has been awarded numerous grants, awards and exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited in the Northeastern U.S. and in Germany . The artist works in a systematic process meant to evoke a dialogue between painterly and constructive visual language.  She will complete a series of acrylic paintings 20”x20” and then digitally translate elements of the work.  Her goal is to monumentalize form into an ambiguous depiction of nature.

GRANT INNES

Painter/Illustrator and Children’s Literature

BFA in Cinema from Concordia University ( Montreal ) and BF in History from Dalhousie University (Halifax).

A self-taught painter inspired by the strong folk art traditions of his childhood in Nova Scotia , Innes’ work has been exhibited in the U.S. , Canada and France .

His first illustrated book for children, (ages 3-5) Flight of the Whirlgigs, was a bestseller for HarperCollins Children’s Books in Canada . Reviews compare the work with the classic Barbar the Elephant and the celebrated Madeline series.

Innes will devote his residency to conceiving and developing an illustrated children’s book set against the Gulf Coast and inspired by the area’s culture and traditions.  He has previously visited the area and has produced several paintings in response to his introduction to the Emerald Coast area.  They will be on exhibit at Eileen West Gallery throughout the month. Innes will also conduct a storytelling through art workshop with SNS art and language students in conjunction with their mentoring activities at Bay Elementary School.

CLAIRE LIEBERMAN

Sculpture and Printmaking

BFA from Tufts University in affiliation with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston and her MFA from Pratt Institute.

As sculptor and printmaker, Lieberman has exhibited widely in the U.S. Her work has been reviewed in Sculpture magazine and the New York Times and she is the author of several published articles and reviews.

Lieberman will create a series of linoleum cut prints based on two large-scale, trans-media sculpture installations that have been constructed with a unique

range of materials: hand-fabricated alabaster and marble, Plexiglas and cast glass, feathers and orange jello and video.  Both works raise ecological questions on the balance between use and consumption and offer interpretations of nature that can foster understanding of preservation needs.

Lieberman will conduct a mold making and plaster casting workshop with SNS student.  Her prints and sculpture will be exhibited at Eileen West Gallery throughout the month.

Paradis will create an estimate 6-10 abstract land and seascapes utilizing a unique technique of mixing pure pigments and recycled powdered glass in an acrylic base. The materials reflect the artist’s interest in environmental protection.

The artist will conduct a painting workshop for students that focuses on techniques of incorporating unique materiels.  He has requested that the small paintings created by the children be exhibited alongside his own work at Eileen West Gallery.
